2D Drafting
The majority of companies these days use 3D modelling over 2D CAD, however it is worth remembering that 2D CAD is considerably inexpensive compared to 3D modelling software.

Formatting is simple as the majority of the time you are using the same file format.
Electronic drawings and sketches are much easier to share, it makes collaboration more efficient and effective.
Simple amendments can be much easier and quicker to achieve on the go.
Quality of work
I wouldn't just copy your original drawings, I would check them to ensure there are no mistakes so that these are not carried forward.
